Total has been involved in all links of the natural gas chain for years, from extraction, liquefaction and shipping to regasification, marketing and trading. We have a balanced international footprint and recognized expertise in all these areas. To support growth in global gas consumption, we are investing massively, with a particularly strong emphasis on liquefied natural gas (LNG), which offers greater supply security for importing nations because it can be shipped by sea. LNG accounts for around 20% of the Group's output.

When natural gas is liquefied, it becomes suitable for long distance transportation. Natural gas achieves a liquid state at -163°C, becoming liquefied natural gas (LNG), which must later be regasified for distribution. LNG is becoming an increasingly important component in a world gas market defined by booming demand, especially in Asia, and would experience average annual growth of nearly 4% over the next 10 to 15 years.

Not only is natural gas an easily accessible and abundant energy source offering a perfect fit with renewables, but it is also by far the least polluting fossil fuel.
Used as a marine fuel, it leads to a significant reduction of CO2 emissions, virtually no sulphur oxides (SOx) emissions, and a drastic decrease in nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate emissions.

The strategy of Total Marine Fuel Global Solutions is to leverage on the integrated Total group position in order to serve LNG bunker to our customers wherever they need it, with fit-for-purpose innovative logistics solutions. We currently develop projects in Europe and Asia, and are ready to consider any project in other geographies.

As a member of SEA\LNG, SGMF (Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel) and AFG (Association Française du Gaz), Total Marine Fuels Global Solutions actively contributes to the development of industry initiatives in order to reduce the sector’s carbon footprint and develop tailor-made solutions that make ships more environmentally-friendly.
